Bastille has been dropping new singles for the past couple months in anticipation of their new album, and on Wednesday, April 24, the band released the title track “Doom Days.”
Along with the track, the group also released a music video for the song. The video has lead singer Dan Smith singing to the camera as colored lights flash and reflect off of him.
The song itself is ‘Black Mirror’-esque and a little political. Smith sings “We fucked this house up like the planet / We were running riot / Crazy that some people still deny it.”
As the song goes on, Smith sings faster, the music grows louder and it all fills the listener with a sense of urgency. “Doom Days” is all about the modern world and all of the anxieties that come with it. A song that reflects exactly what the band is seeing, it’s totally reachable, relatable and fun to hear. We can only hope that it’s a reflection of the music that will be on the rest of the new album.
The new album, rumored to be released in August, is the follow up to Bastille’s last album release, “Wild World,” which was dropped back in 2016.
